Roses are adored for both their objective qualities and symbolic asso- ciations. They are wonderful subjects for a still-life painting/drawing. I had chosen to draw this specific rosebush as a backdrop for a poster depicting a scene of children playing in a garden, but the drawing took front-stage and today it stands on its own.
process
The illustration was constructed through the collaging of photos of different rose bushes to create the right form for a backdrop. The use of the dotting technique erases the boundaries between the various elements that were collaged together. I used .05 and .10 mm lining pens to complete this illustration.
