The idea is to make a library using as few elements as possible and using only one material.
It is therefore basically composed of two elements only: the vertical one (the pillar) and the horizontal one (the shelf).
The load-bearing system is basically an archaic trilithic system (lithos = ancient Greek for “stone”) but instead of being made of stone it was here, borrowing from Gottfried Semper the concept of Stoffwechsel (German for “metamorphosis”) “translated” into a different material, while maintaining the original constructive and structural principle.
The elements are neither glued nor screwed, but “held together” by gravity alone.
Shelves and pillars define a system of joints in giant order and together with the rotation of the latter they serve to ensure the structural stability of the whole.
The bookcase is completely self-supporting and can therefore be placed on the wall but also “freestanding” in the center of a space, side by side and repeated in series.

The bookcase is made of solid ash wood of European origin and FSC certified.
The wood is processed through 5-axis number control machines and then painted by hand.
